Esri Rwanda has won their first GEONIS project

The Water and Sanitation Corporation of Kigali in Rwanda, WASAC, selected Esri Rwanda as the successful bidder for their mapping project.

The Water and Sanitation Corporation (former EWSA) of Kigali in Rwanda, WASAC, selected Esri Rwanda as the successful bidder for their mapping project. The Esri Rwanda offer was technically as well as commercially rated as the best proposal. The contract was signed with WASAC on June 25th. 2015. 

The Project is essentially divided in four phases: 
  1. First phase: is a systematic inventory and mapping of all water customers (house connections). For this purpose, more than a 100 enumerators are equipped with mobile devices, trained and sent out into the field to collect data. This information will be used to update the customer database and the billing system.
  2. Second phase: is to map all water network assets (i.e. pipes, pumps, valves, tanks, etc.)
  3. Third phase: the assets and customer information will be loaded into GIS/GEONIS. GEONIS creates the water and sanitation transportation and distribution network based on the assets that were collected in the field. GEONIS will provide all the tools and capabilities to document and maintain the water network assets as well as the customer information and make this information available throughout the ArcGIS platform to the different users.
  4. Fourth phase: as soon as the network has been established and all necessary information available, the Mike Urban package from DHI will be used to perform the necessary hydraulic calculations, which will enable WASAC to better understand their network and determine water losses.

The system will enable WASAC to improve their water services to their customers by reducing leakages and outages of the network and improve their financial balance due to the availability of an updated customer and WASAC billing system.

After having finalized the four phases the project foresees to design a SCADA system for the WASAC Water Network.
